Profile

I'm a software engineer and QA test analyst with six years inside Bluecrest's technology environment and a longer background across software development, systems analysis, data and quality engineering, mostly in healthcare. I work in Angular and TypeScript day to day, with earlier commercial work in Laravel, PHP and JavaScript and NHS work in Symfony, and I build with LLMs and agents alongside the main job. I'm looking to move back into a full-time development role.

Experience

  1. QA Test Analyst, Bluecrest Wellness

    to present

    • Resolved a long-standing defect in blood pressure result handling, tracing the underlying system behaviour and implementing a fix that removed around 100 unnecessary customer reassessments a year.
    • Design and maintain automated end-to-end testing with Cypress and Cucumber, managed in Git and run in Bitbucket CI/CD pipelines for business-critical services.
    • Designed and built an AI-assisted QA agent that gathers ticket context and acceptance criteria, reviews code changes and their blast radius, checks deployment and regression status, and produces risk-based test plans. Uses reusable skills and specialist sub-agents, with benchmarked smaller models handling data gathering to cut token cost, and human review kept throughout.
    • Prototyped AI-enabled decision tools, including a configurable decision tree for exploring how calculation changes affect the products shown to prospective customers, and a concept using customer data to generate tailored recommendations.
    • Investigate business and production problems across frontend, backend, API and database layers, using SQL, REST APIs, logs and code analysis to find root causes and define fixes.
    • Work with HL7 message data in integration testing and incident investigation, validating messages and tracing failures through error logs.
    • Contribute directly to Angular, TypeScript, PHP and SQL code, taking work from investigation through implementation, testing and release.
    • Delivered an internal Stripe subscription-management feature so Contact Centre agents can cancel subscriptions without opening Stripe. Spotted missing backend data mid-build, specified the extra API, worked with a backend developer on the endpoint and integrated it.
    • Act as Accessibility Champion, supporting colleagues with accessible design and development and building an interactive accessible staff training course.
    • Act as AI Champion, supporting responsible experimentation with AI tooling and its practical adoption across the team.
  2. Digital Accessibility Consultant (freelance), Accessible By Design

    to present

    • Audit web pages against WCAG using automated tooling and manual techniques including keyboard and screen reader testing.
    • Document failures clearly against the relevant success criteria and provide practical technical remediation guidance developers can act on.
  3. Volunteer Software Engineer, CodeSouth.fm

    to present

    • Designed and built a self-service presenter onboarding platform replacing a manual email process, cutting typical admin time from 15 to 20 minutes to 2 to 3 minutes per presenter.
    • Designed and built a centralised scheduling system for recurring and one-off shows, replacing manual schedule management across several pages with a single data model that drives the public site.
    • Analyse the station's operational processes and technology, including website, database, scheduling and third-party services, to find opportunities for automation and take them from user need through design, build, testing and adoption.
    • Built and red-teamed an AI assistant that helps presenters write show and profile content through a conversational workflow, using adversarial testing to find unwanted behaviours before wider use.
    • Develop across PHP, JavaScript, MySQL and WordPress, recording significant technical decisions and trade-offs as Architecture Decision Records.
  4. Frontend Developer, Parexel

    to

    • Developed JavaScript, HTML and CSS functionality across healthcare web applications in a large enterprise development environment.
    • Built and customised WordPress themes and templates for client projects.
    • Used Parexel's internally developed LLM-based coding agent as part of the development workflow, early practical experience of AI-assisted engineering at enterprise scale.
    • Worked in Agile multidisciplinary teams delivering responsive, user-focused software.
  5. Frontend Developer, Bluecrest Wellness

    to

    • Sole frontend developer on Bluecrest's first digital customer platform, built with Laravel, PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
    • Developed and maintained customer-facing healthcare applications within an established commercial codebase, later moving to Angular and TypeScript.
    • Worked with product, backend and QA colleagues to turn business and user requirements into working software, through implementation, testing, release and continuous improvement.
    • Applied UX and accessibility principles to healthcare journeys used by a wide range of customers.
  6. Developer, Practice Unbound

    to

    • Developed healthcare applications supporting NHS services using Symfony, PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS and SQL.
    • Worked on a digital eLearning platform for healthcare learning and development, leading UI and UX decisions.
    • Designed and built a responsive patient self-referral portal for a mental wellbeing service, from user and operational requirements through UX design, development, testing and go-live, including admin management of workshops.
    • Used SQL and Power BI to support application functionality, clinical and operational reporting and service improvement.
    • Acted as the organisation's liaison with its external IT provider, coordinating requirements and issues across hardware, networks and servers (2016 to 2020), and from 2018 managed a team member and coordinated IT services for internal NHS service teams.
  7. Systems Analyst, Here (Care Unbound Ltd)

    to

    • Worked directly with clinicians, administrators, service managers and technical teams, translating ambiguous operational needs into structured use cases, functional specifications and practical solutions.
    • Configured and developed SystmOne services, including clinical forms, templates, workflows, schedules, user permissions, reporting and integrations, supporting the rollout and operation of services including Sussex MSK.
    • Supported the evaluation and rollout of a speech-to-text medical dictation solution, working with users and the supplier on requirements, equipment, licensing, integration, testing, troubleshooting and adoption.
    • Onboarded clinicians, configured system access, troubleshot issues and adapted the platform as requirements changed.
    • Produced technical and business documentation, acting as the liaison between users, internal teams and external providers.
  8. Senior Information Analyst, Here (Care Unbound Ltd)

    to

    • Used SQL extensively to analyse, validate and report on complex healthcare data across clinical systems, CRM data and relational databases.
    • Designed and developed Power BI dashboards and SQL-based reporting for operational and service performance monitoring, working with stakeholders to understand their information needs.
    • Produced reporting for healthcare service commissioners, communicating performance and insight to external stakeholders.
    • Supported data migration and transformation, validating data quality and investigating issues across systems and datasets.
    • Translated complex business and service questions from managers and clinicians into meaningful analysis.
